Emotional Knick-Knack

I have
a sadness,
don't know
where to put it,
what to do
with it.
Can't take it
out for a walk,
feed it
or frame it.
Guess it will stay
on the shelf
for now,
another
emotional knick-knack.

After the Writing Workshop

Guess I'm supposed
to use fancy phrases
that befuddle
and impress
but I don't have
the energy
to tart up words
and trot them
onto the page.
Would rather work
with ordinary,
not my style
to obscure and prettify.
A few choice words,
freshly picked
and simply garnished
are all I need.
No call for organic,
free-range, gluten-free
fussiness.
At my roots
will always be
an Iowa farm girl,
harvesting basics.
