Light, Captured

Still an abundance
of daylight,
enough to squander.
But the sunlight
shrinks by
four minutes twenty-five seconds
today.
Need to cache
pieces of bright
around the house,
to be startled this winter
when I stumble
on them,
fireworks
against the dark.

Frozen Mass Threatens Dalton

Oh no, my nephew's
in trouble!
Best let my sister know.
Oh, the Dalton HIGHWAY,
aka the Haul Road
to Prudhoe Bay.
A moving mass of
frozen debris
(my ex-boyfriend?)
is sliding toward the road
and the trans-Alaska pipeline.
Can't decide which name
I like best:
giant blob or
frozen debris lobe?
Regardless,
it's mean and
it's moving.
********

Anchorage Daily News,  June 24, 2014
"The road is about 140 feet from the leading edge of the debris - a frozen accumulation of sand, gravel, rock, silt, old pieces of wood, ice and other materials that continue to puzzle scientists."

Corporate Cats

This morning,
after informing
the cats about
my conference call
and business meetings
I pondered
how they would handle
the work world.
Decided that even if
cats could have
conference calls,
they wouldn't.
Every meeting
would have same agenda
(with treats served a given.)
Cat Business Meeting Agenda:

1. Do nothing.
2. Rest.

CSI: Alaska

Surveyed crime scene
in my backyard:
broken fence,
busted plant stand.
Swore when I
stepped into
evidence,
then noticed
fresh prints.
Declared perimeter clear,
suspect long gone,
guilty of entering the garden
breaking my plants.
The perp?
A local moose.
